The Joy of Advising
Presented by: Kip Hubbard, Academic Advisor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham October 13, 2026 - 10:00 am |
With each brushstroke, Bob Ross taught us how to paint and how to live. Decades after “The Joy of Painting” concluded, his iconic catchphrases still resonate with us from “this is your world” to “happy little trees” to “bravery tests.” Ross inspired us to engage our imagination, to reach our potential, to embrace companionship, and to overcome obstacles. Academic Advisors, teachers, and guidance counselors can apply these life lessons to their daily work to promote self-care and a positive mindset, as well as to empower student success. This presentation received "Best in Region IV" at the 2023 NACADA Region IV Conference in Huntsville, AL.
