Featured Speakers
Dr. Patrice A. Williams-Shuford is an experienced educator with a proven history of working in higher education. She is skilled in teaching, planning, and building educational support systems. Dr. Williams-Shuford is a dynamic education professional who earned her Bachelor of Science in English and Psychology from the University of South Alabama, Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Mobile, Specialist in Education in English Education from Florida State University, and her Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
She has spent her career in education as an English teacher, an English professor, a college advisor, a higher education administrator, a workshop presenter, and a project consultant. As QEP Director, Dr. Williams-Shuford spearheads active and engaged faculty development and leads NWFSC faculty through the Quality Enhancement Plan, Engage NWFSC. Dr. Williams-Shuford enjoys working with students, working with educators, and being involved in the community. |
Carl Cunningham Jr., Ph.D., is a Mobile native. Carl is a graduate of Murphy High School. Carl received his undergraduate degree from Jackson State University. Carl received his Master’s in Geography and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Carl is currently the Director of TRiO Student Support Services at Coastal Alabama Community College. He is also a consultant for various school
systems and institutions of higher education in regards to youth leadership development. Carl serves on several local boards. Some of those include Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Murphy High School Alumni Association, and Camp Beckwith. Carl currently serves as the President of the Jackson State University Alumni Chapter (Mobile) and is the national president of the Jackson State University Sonic Boom Alumni Association. Carl worked at the University of South Alabama (USA) for 13 years where he served as the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs, and in the Geography Department. While at the University of South Alabama, Carl advised the University of South Alabama National Pan-Hellenic Council, the ABK Honor Society, and the African American Student Association, just to name a few. Carl is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he has served as the Guide Right/Mobile Kappa League Director for 20 years. Since 2002, Carl has mentored over 377 young men in the Kappa League. These young men have earned over $64 million dollars in scholarship offers. He has recently written a book entitled, “A Kut Above: Results of Positive Male Mentoring.” |
